I'm a published wedding and portrait photographer located in a small town outside of Charlottesville. In addition to capturing beautiful images, I love spending time with my family, am freakishly good at word games (Hey Wheelmobile!), love an ice cold can of Coke or Dr. Pepper, know every line to Hocus Pocus and can never pass up a Chick-fil-A waffle fry or a trip to HomeGoods.

Morgan + CJ | Frontier Culture Museum Wedding

When I think of Morgan and CJ’s Frontier Culture Museum wedding, I think of fun! I also then get Nelly stuck in my head, but that’ll make sense in a minute.

Morgan and CJ met at work and knew each other in passing for about a year before one hike changed everything. They hit it off and began dating which led to an engagement several years later and ultimately their super fun wedding.

They chose to have their wedding at the Frontier Culture Museum in Staunton which is a great spot. The Octagonal Barn is one of only two such barns in the state and features both a downstairs and an upstairs. The upstairs serves as the reception space while the downstairs can be used for staging and a ceremony location. There’s also a ceremony spot at the outdoor amphitheater which is where Morgan and CJ chose to have their ceremony.

Prior to the ceremony, we explored a spot in downtown Staunton for a first look which I always love! By no means does anyone have to have a first look, but it really creates a nice, calm, sweet moment in what can otherwise be a very busy day. CJ’s reaction to seeing Morgan walking toward him under the tunnel did not disappoint and for those who may worry a first look will spoil the moment the groom sees his bride walking down the aisle, it never does. It’s always perfect and it was in this case, too.

Following the ceremony, the party began and here’s where Nelly comes in. CJ and his sister rapped old school Nelly during the reception. One of my favorite wedding moments ever! Nelly doesn’t get enough love. “Grillz” is a classic, right? I definitely used to sing “Country Grammar” to Hartley when she was a baby. Maybe I shouldn’t admit that…
