I'm a published wedding and portrait photographer located in a small town outside of Charlottesville. In addition to capturing beautiful images, I love spending time with my family, am freakishly good at word games (Hey Wheelmobile!), love an ice cold can of Coke or Dr. Pepper, know every line to Hocus Pocus and can never pass up a Chick-fil-A waffle fry or a trip to HomeGoods.

Laura + Kyle | Lake Anna Wedding

Laura and Kyle may have had to wait a few extra months for their Lake Anna wedding, but it was so worth it. They were originally supposed to get married in April, but thanks to COVID-19, they moved their wedding to mid-September. That’s something that many 2020 brides, and wedding vendors, unfortunately have experience with. It’s been an interesting year, but like many other couples, Laura and Kyle navigated it all gracefully.

September 18 proved to be the perfect day (and I don’t just say that because it’s also my anniversary). The weather was amazing. The lake was calm. And everyone was ready to celebrate these two getting married.

The ceremony and reception were held at Anna Cabana, a little spot on Lake Anna with the best water views as the backdrop. It’s kind of in a cove next to a marina so it’s not right in the mix of what can be a very busy area especially in the warmer months. Laura picked shades of blue and gray for her colors with pops of yellow from sunflowers both in the bouquets and as arbor decorations. The bridesmaids wore dusty blue dresses with the groomsmen in gray and navy. In true 2020 wedding fashion, there was plenty of hand sanitizer to be found as well as a color coded armband system to express if guests were there for hugs (green), would prefer more of an elbow bump distance (yellow) or would wave from afar (red). Green was the top choice.

Laura and Kyle shared a first look on the docks prior to the start of the ceremony which was then held in front of the water. They exchanged custom vows (Kyle’s included citations for his sources) and had a tree planting as part of their ceremony. While both of their mothers and Laura and Kyle poured dirt on the tree during the ceremony, it’ll be planted in the yard at their house. After the ceremony, it was time for dinner and dancing, and more dancing, because these two can dance! I love it!

Enjoy some of my favorites from this Lake Anna wedding.
