In addition to capturing beautiful images, I love spending time with my family, am freakishly good at word games (Hey Wheelmobile!), love an ice cold can of Coke or Dr. Pepper, know every line to Hocus Pocus and can never pass up a Chick-fil-A waffle fry or a trip to HomeGoods.

Elizabeth + Conner | Octagonal Barn Wedding

Elizabeth and Conner were married on a perfect October day at the Octagonal Barn at the Frontier Culture Museum in Staunton. Fun little fact about the barn itself, it was built in 1905 and as of 1993, was one of only two such barns in the state. Beside the shape, it’s also unique in that it offers a ceremony space downstairs and a fun reception space upstairs. It’s no wonder why Elizabeth and Conner chose it for their day.

Listening to the speeches during the reception was one of my favorite parts of the wedding. Everyone talked about how perfect Elizabeth and Conner are for each other. Elizabeth’s dad and sister recalled the first time they met him and how brave Elizabeth was for packing up and moving to Charlottesville, a city where she knew no one. She made that move before meeting Conner and he became the perfect piece to her puzzle. Conner was getting out of the Marine Corps in California and preparing to move to Charlottesville. They talked until they could meet in person for their first real date. He was then deployed to Iraq as a contractor, where he remained for several months, but again they only got stronger.

When he returned, it was full on wedding planning leading up to their day!

Elizabeth and Conner’s wedding was full of elegant grace. They had practiced for weeks on their first dance, which again I loved, and Conner created both the arbor for their ceremony as well as outdoor lawn games for the reception. The inside of the Octagonal Barn was lit with string lights and Mission BBQ provided the food. The bridesmaids wore burgundy, while the groomsmen wore gray suits with burgundy ties. The flowers were also beautiful, pulling in shades of burgundy and peach.

They practiced their first dance downstairs before being introduced into the reception. The light streaming through the doors made for the most perfect shadows.
