I'm a published wedding and portrait photographer located in a small town outside of Charlottesville. In addition to capturing beautiful images, I love spending time with my family, am freakishly good at word games (Hey Wheelmobile!), love an ice cold can of Coke or Dr. Pepper, know every line to Hocus Pocus and can never pass up a Chick-fil-A waffle fry or a trip to HomeGoods.
One of the first things Emily said to me about Jake was that he made her laugh like no one else could and that was evident from the day we first met in person at their engagement session to the day of their Lake Anna wedding. Like so many of my couples and couples in general today, they met via a dating app. That eventually led to closing down a restaurant at dinner and later a renaissance festival to which Jake definitely dressed for the theme–ahoy mateys! (I love it!). The rest is kind of history with a friendsgiving proposal at Emily’s favorite winery with her best friend and their families.
Their wedding day, which was maybe the hottest day of the spring, was full of laughter and fun. Emily surprised her bridesmaids and friends with a first look and Jake spent the morning enjoying the dock at their lakeside rental before getting ready with his groomsmen. Emily’s close family friend served as the officiant and she was perfect offering up personal stories and laughs before the “I do.” There were also tears with the sweetest vows and the cutest flower girls ever.
Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed a taco bar (YES!), drinks and dancing as well as games of cornhole on custom boards made for the bride and groom. There were also custom Adirondack chairs that served as the guestbook with guests writing well wishes on them. I had never seen this before, but I love when couples choose something that will become part of their home post-wedding. It’s such a great idea and keepsake.
Emily and Jake had lots of personal details at their wedding similar to the chairs. They honored family members who had passed with a memory table and I personally loved her color choices of periwinkle and sunset shades. They matched the lake atmosphere perfectly. And of course Jake’s cowboy hat can not be overlooked.
Check out some of my favorites from their Lake Anna wedding day.
