I'm a published wedding and portrait photographer located in a small town outside of Charlottesville. In addition to capturing beautiful images, I love spending time with my family, am freakishly good at word games (Hey Wheelmobile!), love an ice cold can of Coke or Dr. Pepper, know every line to Hocus Pocus and can never pass up a Chick-fil-A waffle fry or a trip to HomeGoods.
In 2021, I had the opportunity to participate in a styled shoot at various locations throughout Lynchburg, including Atelier Studio. The shoot raised funds for the YWCA of Central Virginia which aims to empower women, children and families. They have a domestic violence prevention program, a sexual assault response program and a women’s residential housing program. They also operate Church Street Bridal which offers designer gowns at vastly reduced prices. The funds from Church Street Bridal benefit the YWCA.
Atelier Studio is a studio and gathering space that is absolutely perfect if you love bright and airy. It may have been a firehouse at one point, the history is a mystery (doesn’t that sound like a Taylor Swift lyric?!?), but it has white walls, large windows and tons of natural light. It can be rented as a studio space, but also makes for a great spot for any event, including weddings with a guest list of up to 40 people. It’s such a perfect space and so versatile, it can kind of be anything you want it to be.
While the Firehouse 4 shoot, also part of the Church Street Bridal event, was all about bright and colorful, the Atelier Studio shoot played off of the space’s light and airy vibes. There was lots of greenery, shades of gold and emerald, lit candles and white florals with pops of yellow. There was one bride and groom couple and two additional bridal models, all with a different, yet romantic, style.
The Atelier Studio is definitely one of my favorites. The natural light is just unbeatable. If you’re looking for a unique, smaller yet versatile venue in the Lynchburg area, this is it. Here are a few of my favorites from the shoot.
