I'm a published wedding and portrait photographer located in a small town outside of Charlottesville. In addition to capturing beautiful images, I love spending time with my family, am freakishly good at word games (Hey Wheelmobile!), love an ice cold can of Coke or Dr. Pepper, know every line to Hocus Pocus and can never pass up a Chick-fil-A waffle fry or a trip to HomeGoods.
Kerry and Sergio’s Washington, D.C. wedding was amazing, not only because of the beautiful setting and gorgeous green Kerry chose for her colors, but also because it happened right before everything shut down. The worldwide pandemic has affected us all, no matter where we are, and the wedding industry isn’t immune to that. So many couples have had to shuffle their plans, postponing dates for later this summer and fall, eloping and even cancelling until they can get a better sense of what the future will look like. My heart breaks for every single one of them and all of my vendor friends, but I am so happy Kerry and Sergio were able to have their day. Unfortunately, not everyone could be there due to the virus, but they were surrounded by the love of family and friends (including some of Sergio’s family via Facetime!)
I first met Kerry years ago at a wedding I captured at Retreat at Cool Springs. Kerry and Carrie are friends and Kerry was a guest at Carrie’s wedding. I also got to see Carrie again at Kerry’s wedding. I was excited when Kerry asked me to capture her wedding. I was even more excited when I found out it was going to be St. Patrick’s Day themed.
Kerry is Irish and she and Sergio paid homage to her roots by not only choosing to have their wedding the Saturday before St. Patrick’s Day, but also by selecting green and white as their colors. The theme was carried through with custom green table coverings edged with shamrocks, shamrock decorations, an Irish toast and a cake featuring Shamrocks. It was beautiful, especially when surrounded by Top of the Town’s views of Washington, D.C. The couple also paid homage to Sergio’s roots with Latin music and Kerry’s dad handed out homemade cookie favors made from her mom’s recipe. He’s the best!
Following their wedding ceremony at St. Charles Catholic Church (gorgeous stained glass!), we visited the Lincoln Memorial and the District of Columbia War Memorial for photos. Then it was off to Top of the Town for a few scenic photos and the reception. If you’ve never been to Top of the Town, it has the best views of the city. It was also a great place for Kerry and Sergio to dance with their guests and their guests could dance! Here are some of my favorites from Kerry and Sergio’s Washington, D.C. wedding day.
