My first communication with Sarah was via email back in April. She was planning a wedding in Surry the first Saturday in May and was seeking a photographer for herself and her fiancee, Will. She said they’d been together nearly a decade and that her favorite photo was of the groom seeing his bride coming down the aisle for the first time. It was then that I knew her wedding would be amazing and it was!

Sarah and Will were married the first Saturday in May at Chippokes Plantation in front of their closest friends and family. The wedding ceremony was under a tree in the grass which was filled with tons of little yellow buttercups and despite a quick rain shower, the clouds held off to create a beautiful day. With Sarah’s sisters and Will’s friends by their side, the two smiled as they said their vows, exchanged rings and performed a special medallion ceremony with Will’s daughter. After Sarah and Will said “I do” and officially jumped the broom, everyone gathered in the conference shelter for dinner, dancing and dessert as they celebrated the newlyweds.

The reception was full of DIY details including navy and burlap covered tables, sunflowers, paper pom poms and more. Their cake featured two chairs and a fishing theme and was surrounded by various flavored cupcakes adorned with sugar sunflowers. Dinner consisted of everything one could want including three types of barbecue, quite possibly the best baked beans ever (I seriously should have gotten the recipe!) and more. It was perfect.
