I'm a published wedding and portrait photographer located in a small town outside of Charlottesville. In addition to capturing beautiful images, I love spending time with my family, am freakishly good at word games (Hey Wheelmobile!), love an ice cold can of Coke or Dr. Pepper, know every line to Hocus Pocus and can never pass up a Chick-fil-A waffle fry or a trip to HomeGoods.

Shelby + Jakob | Rock Hill Pavilion Wedding

The recent snow, which is still sticking around (waiting for more?), has me reminiscing about Shelby and Jakob’s Rock Hill Pavilion wedding.

First, a little bit about Shelby and Jakob. They met in high school, did the long distance thing through college, and then moved in together. Jakob later proposed during a hike in Great Falls National Park with their greyhound, Boone. I love when pets are included in life moments. Bring me all the puppies!

They planned a spring wedding at Rock Hill Plantation (now known as Rock Hill Pavilion) in Stafford. It was the second week of March so we had the usual what’s the plan in the very off chance that it rains conversation. We did not, however, have the what’s the plan in case it snows conversation. And boy did it snow! It was that windy, blowing snow. Thankfully it didn’t really affect the roads or cause any utility issues, but it was cold. Shelby and Jakob, along with their family and friends, were troopers. Although the ceremony was moved inside due to the weather, we were able to step outside and get some beautiful portraits in the snow. I’m always so thankful and grateful when people are willing to embrace the elements and freeze with me (or get a little wet on a rainy day) for a few minutes because the portraits really are worth it. The snow was absolutely gorgeous and the perfect (yet unexpected) backdrop.

The neutral bridesmaid dresses with white flowers and the blue suits for the groomsmen popped against the snow. Shelby’s dress was beautiful and she wore her grandmother’s headpiece in her veil. Her grandmother’s cord was also used during the hand-fasting part of the ceremony. For the reception, Shelby and Jakob hit the dance floor, which was packed the entire time. It was so fun!

Here are some of my favorites from the day.
